April 9, 2007 at 8:06 pmDo you need to stamp tc from the camera?
If not, Excel can be your logging program.

April 9, 2007 at 8:12 pmP2 log pro is also made by the same company as hd log and is pretty comprehensive. these programs are currently the only way to get full information off the p2 cards meta information. I think this is about to be addressed in next few weeks check out NAB news.
if you are looking for more media management then you may like the fact that apple has aquired artbox and may introduce in new versions of final cut pro

this may be of interest, using excel to log footage

April 9, 2007 at 8:39 pmfound this one the other day
it is nice for asset management and seems quite forward looking in that it uses XML and mpeg7
not totally for logging i know but it is important to know how content is going to be catalogued and repurposed at a later stage. it is also important to realise that long term there is a move away from tape and over to hard disk based files with meta data. meta data can say a lot more than timecode.

April 9, 2007 at 11:45 pmYou can use FCP and this VTR emulator along with an aja IO or simliar: (thank Gary Adcock for the pointer)
and

Personally, I feel there’s no better way to log for FCP than FCP.

April 10, 2007 at 3:57 amI’ve played around with CatDV and it works well.
I was looking for a cross platform quicktime timecode-reading solution
and this one works for that purpose. It does much more of course.
But the price is much better than dedicated logging solutions like

April 10, 2007 at 6:16 amI personally like to just open an exported batch list from fcp in excel
and use it as a template to send to my clients for logging.works well, free too. 🙂
