January 17, 2010 at 2:03 pmWhy not get a monitor calibration probe? They’re not that expensive and I’ve had good results with my Gretag Eye-One Display II. In sweden this goes for 380 or so with tax. Should be a lot cheaper in the states. I usually bring this to my clients when I am going to color on their systems, just want my computer monitors to look somewhat decent.

January 17, 2010 at 2:25 pmDell is the unit we run here and it’s a good monitor.
HP Dreamcolor is a $1,000 LCD computer monitor, but it’s glossy I believe.

January 17, 2010 at 2:53 pmHey Rafa
Other than Dell having a bit of a QC issue with this one, the U2410 looks to be a lot of monitor for a bargain price. If you get a good one you should be pretty happy. There is what appears to be a reasonable objective technical review here:
https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/dell_u2410.htmAs for decent calibration through the IoHD’s HDMI out, as far as I know it doesn’t have the HDMI output calibration function of the MXO2, but the monitor itself does seems to offer a fair amount of control for calibration purposes so you’d probably be able to dial in a pretty good picture I should think.

January 17, 2010 at 4:16 pmeveryone is forgetting about HP monitors. HP makes EXCELLENT alternative monitors to the Dell, at very good prices. The original appeal of the early Dell 2407WFP was it’s ability to have VGA/DVI/analog component that would display an HD signal as well as the computer signal. This model is now the 2408WFP from Dell.
But if you need DVI only for your computer monitors, HP does a fantastic job (and is the #1 monitor used on almost every AVID system).

Fox Sports uses the new LP2275w (22″ not 24″) on most of their edit systems.
since you have the Intensity card, that can output an analog component signal, the Panasonic PH42PD12UK at $749 is a fantastic value for a very hi quality monitor for your VIDEO image.

January 17, 2010 at 8:13 pmAgreed on the HP. The AVID recommendation is one of the reasons Pro Resellers tend to favour these, but I think it’s down to the more consistent colour reproduction. Certainly, the Dells can be great, and I recommend them for value, but…
You can have my 3 non-glossy calibrated 23″ DVI Apple Cinema displays when you can prise them out of my cold dead hands however….

January 18, 2010 at 9:16 amHi Bob and Ben,
Thanks for the info.
My Dell is in the way and with a deposit paid, but soon I will need another 24″ monitor.
The HP looks great and possibly will be easier to get it here.
The PANA looks great too, but the models of TVs that the bigs (SONY, PANA, Sansung, etc) sells around here are completely different that what you find in a western catalog.
I want to be able to of check my HD in a really big screen. Even if the color is not perfect, but big size.
Cheers,

January 18, 2010 at 11:59 pmI’ve been looking around for info on the HP 2475w, and it’s good to know that it’s Avid’s recommendation. I think I’ll swap my 23″ Cinema Displays out for them (the Cinema Displays are starting to leave ghost images behind).
Thanks for the tip!

August 22, 2013 at 8:53 pmHi Raphael,
I just got two 2410s – unfortunately they came with total different calibrations.
One in red tint and one in bluefish greenish.
Fighting now with dell to get them replaced.
How did you calibrate your dells on the mac?
With the internal calibration tool?
What settings you chose? SRGB? What brightness and contrast?Thanx
