Best laptop for PP
Posted by Ron Pestes on June 24, 2011 at 3:03 amIs there a recommendation for the best laptop to run Premiere Pro 5.5 on? I am just starting to think about changing from FCP after thier disaster release of FCPX.

June 24, 2011 at 10:22 amYou could stay with your MBP. But for the same price you’ll get much more power from a HP Elitebook or Lenevo Thinkpad. Just make sure to have a nVidia GPU. But as Apple Certy?

June 24, 2011 at 3:20 pmI just put the CS5 Master Collection on a Lenovo Thinkpad W510. It has an NVidia card (Quadro FX 880m – their fastest available notebook card), 16GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. I picked it up on E*** very lightly used, and was able to purchase an extended warranty from Lenovo (its’ original warranty had not lapsed). So far, this thing runs circles around my desktop graphics/editing machine, which is also a quad core, albeit older. It has USB 3.0 connections, DisplayPort, Firewire, HDMI, Bluetooth, and with its’ dock (or without, actually), I can hook up to a wireless mouse and keyboard and pump it into my desktop monitor for office productions. And it’s built like a tank! It even has splash channels in the keyboard tray which will channel that spilled cup of coffee out the bottom (no…I don’t plan to test that) I love it so far!

August 6, 2011 at 8:16 amHi
I would not keep the MPB… at least if you are going to run CS on windows… my mpb is about to get sold and Im getting a faster PC laptop. My mpb runs SOOO hot that I have to get an ice block from the deep freeze to rest my mbp on, seriously. I think the fans do not work properly in boot camp.Anyhow, I am on a similar quest, and unfortunately the adobe list of mobile graphics cards seems very limited/oudated, and does not list any gtx cards, like the one mentioned in this thread, so I suspect many more nvidia cards actually do give mercury playback acceleration, but are not mentioned in their list.
keep us posted…

August 6, 2011 at 5:27 pmI have an HP 8740 laptop arriving on Tuesday with 8 cores, 16 gig of RAM and CS 5.5 Production Premium just waiting to install. Been watching all the video tutorials and read through Richard Harrington’s book so I am ready to jump in. My MBP will be slowly fazed out as I get comfortable with the new setup.
