    Hey there,

I am a intermediate/advanced editor in FCP and adobe premiere, and I recently downloaded a trail version of vegas 8.

I was curious if there is an h.264 export setting?

and/or what is the best way to export 1280×720 hd footage?

what is the highest quality 720 export?

and what is the highest quality/smallest file size export setting in vegas?

Thanks in advance, I am looking forward to mastering a new app…

whoops, I just read some threads on the SV basics forum and I guess I should be posting this there.

Pretty much, I want to post videos shot and edited in HDV onto Vimeo.

I would also like to try to export some videos in 1280×720 to be played on a “regular” website with their hosting service, therefore I’d like to have the highest quality picture, but with the fastest loading time and smallest file size…

anyone have any tips on the best way to do this? one for vimeo and 2 for regular streaming video?

Footage is shot on an xh-a1 and edited on sony vegas 8.

    Thanks,
    Derek

I would use the Sony AVC encoder in Vegas. It makes great quality mpeg-4 files at low bitrates. The MainConcept AVC encoder is great too. One of these should to the job nicely.

    Thanks John,
That looks good! and I can customize the size

Man- I am struggling picking up this Sony Vegas- I have edited w/premiere for the past 5 years and edited for broadcast TV with Final Cut Pro for the past year.

I build a personal PC at home (64 bit ultimate, intel 6600 2.4 quad processor, 8gb gskill ram, etc) and I was thinking of switching over to vegas to edit on the 64 bit platform. I downloaded trial of SV8, and I am having trouble customizing the keyboard, it seems pretty complicated- is the keyboard customization covered in your dvd series? if so, what disk?

Or is there anyway I can import my saved keyboard configurations from fcp or premiere?

I like to have my keyboard like a mix of premiere and FCp defaults

    a -aarow
    c- cut
+/- zoom in or out of timeline
    j- rewind
    L fast forward

any words of wisdom on this ?

You can customize your keyboard using Options | Customize Keyboard… and remapping most keys that you want. I don’t know what you mean by “aarow”. If “cut” means make a cut in the event that is normally mapped to the S key for split but just find TrackView | Edit.Split and remap it to “c”. I can’t any reference to zooming the timeline in the keymap so I’m not sure if that can be remapped. J & L are already mapped to rewind and forward respectively.
