Best h.264 bitrate for 800×600 videos?
I’m working on a project for a client requiring 800×600 resolution vids. They’ll be encoded via Premiere 5.5’s own Mainconcept h.264 encoder, but as I don’t commonly work with that video size I’m not entirely sure the best bitrate range for decent quality.
Some of the source video I have to work with is compressed already unfortunately, so I’m having a hard time visually figuring out which (if any) artifacts are new at any given bitrate I’ve tested or were present in the (non)originals I have to use – obviously I want to keep additional compression to a minimum. So any good rules of thumb here? These will be mostly for web delivery but assuming decent bandwidth connections. Just looking for a ballpark figure.
Thanks in advance.
