Best GFX card for Resolve today?
Posted by Rick Turners on November 3, 2012 at 7:05 pmI’m currently running a GT 120 + GTX 285 setup.
Any newer cards that could help performance?

November 3, 2012 at 9:51 pmMy vote is for the gtx570 2.5gb for internal MacPro usage, gtx 590 if you’re installing it in a cubix box. It’s the best bang for the buck if you can find one.

November 4, 2012 at 11:42 pm570 looks great. Where can you get them?
Is it available for Mac or does it have to be hacked?

November 5, 2012 at 1:54 amI’m currently using an unmodified 570 with a gt120 and its working great. I got mine from Amazon:
When using it with a MacPro, you also need 2 of these power adapters:

November 5, 2012 at 8:54 amI’ve got my 570 and a 120 from Macvidcards on ebay. Now my Resolve install rocks. It’s powerful enough for what I’m doing (mainly h264 canon 5d2 color grading)

November 8, 2012 at 4:04 amHi Rick,
I posted some tests of the 680 a few months ago, I have 3×680 in my main workstation:

I believe that many of the 2GB versions can be powered internally in the Mac Pro, and all of the 4GB versions need a Cubix. Generally it runs alongside the 570/580 but might have future advantages being a PCI3.0 card. Needs mountain lion.

November 8, 2012 at 4:30 amI just grabbed a 580 3gb for the mac pro.. also grabbing a power supply for it.
2010 mac pro. tempted to ditch the quadro 4000 and the ati 5770 and just put the 580 in run the power out the back and hook it to this:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817104054leaving the internal mac power supply to run the rest of the machine without a video card to power.
I already have the 4 drive bays with HD’s in them and my boot drive in the lower 5.25 cage so the power supply will have to be external i think.THoughts.. does this make sense? Run a molex in split off the cdrom drive one to just trip the power supply on. and then run power into the case via the holes in the back slots?

January 16, 2013 at 7:53 amis there a better display card than the GT120? I’ve got a Mountain lion 10.8.2 on a 12-core 2.4 w/24 gig ram and a GTX580 and am looking for a no power card that can run 2 dvi screens… preferably a 30″ and a 24″ I have 2×24’s and a 30″ but really only want the 30 for GUI and 24 for scopes.
