Okay. I got help on my previous post.

My problem was I was editing a .WMV file that came on my Windows system. I was simply using it since I didn’t have any other clips. Transitions were choppy and I couldn’t figure out why.

Danny Hays indicated that WMV files are very compressed and therefore more difficult to edit.

Okay, so that brings me to my question: what are good format to bring into Vegas for editing? WMV’s obviously out.

Also, what are quality codecs/formats to save your project as.

If someone could give a quick rundown of format, such as formats X, Y, and Z are NOT good formats for editing because they’re too compressed and , but formats A, B, and C are good formats to bring into Vegas and edit because .

    That would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

It depends. What format are you shooting in and what is your deliverable?
Your question is too broad to make a simple answer. But, generally, you shoot and edit in the highest resolution format available to you. Only when you encode (in the Render As menu) your final output do you downscale to the target format.
