  • best format for saving illustrator file to be printed on desktop printer

I am doing a logo, business card, and stationary design for a customer who wishes to print them from her desktop printer. I was wondering what the best file format would be so that the formatting would be retained. Would a PDF be the best suited for this purpose? If so, how would I set the preferences up for saving? thanks!

Hi celeste, well I was only asking becaus ethat is exactly what I have been working out over the last week. So i have learned quite a bit and have some much better results now.
The best i can say at this moment is that the file you create should be in adobe rgb1998 workspace. When you save the illustrator document make sure that “save compatible pdf” is ticked ON. Open the pdf by going to your normal illustrator file and hold command key as you click the file, you will see the option to open WITH pdf – at this point I am assuming you have an apple mac? On windows it is probably right click the mouse and open as. The illustrator file will open as a pdf. save this as some suitable name to send to her.

we can take it from here if you have any problems. But Sending her a pdf is the best way.

    Kind regards

    Chris

thanks so much. I have a pc but, as you said, I’m sure there is an alternate method. what does the number next to the rgb refer to?

    Kindest regards

I did mean the 1998. Maybe it’s a date but it probably doesn’t matter. Thanks for your help. Celeste
