    Hello all,

If you have time, please address the folowing export q:   How do I obtain the best quality STILL IMAGE from a .mov file? (.TIFF, JPEG, photoshop, bit depth, millions of colors, etc.)

    Scenario:
-I have HD movie footage shot with my Sony HD video recorder.   The footage is not compressed.
-I want to create a still sequence of about 8 seconds, for Photoshop editing.
-Software I own that could be used for this task:  FCP (Compressor, the whole FCP suite)/Quicktime Pro 7, Quicktime 10, Photoshop CS3, etch a sketch (actually don’t have one anymore).

Basically, I want to take 8 secs (240 frames?) out of a movie, and alter/add each frame, place in order, and voila! – create a ‘new’ 8-second .mov (HD).

    How do I do this?

    -Bob

If I understand correctly what you’re doing try this:

Take your MOV into QuickTime Pro, set an in and out point for your 8 seconds, select “trim to selection”, then export as an image sequence using TIFF with no compression.

Note that your images won’t lose resolution this way, but they won’t gain any either … in other words, video stills will never be 300+dpi print resolution.
