best for looping playback from a mac
Hi…
I dont usually have to deal with compression but i have been asked to produce a video that will play on plasma screens at a conference. It is a 5 minute video with no audio and it loops.
I understand it will be played from a mac using quick time . the video is 1028 x 768.
Anyway can any one pleae advise as to the best codec/ settings for smooth playback and good quality.
I think we assume that the mac being used is most likely to be a comsumer type model(like an ibook) rather than a pro one

I’d probably use MPEG-2 and use the Apple DVD player to loop it.
Otherwise high bitrate MPEG-4 (Not H.264 if you are worried about the specs of the iBook).

Use dedicated software AE will not be brilliant.

Lazy man’s solution: export from Quicktime X using either the “Computer” setting or the “AppleTV” setting under the Share-> iTunes menu.
Playback using QuicktimeX. Command-F for fullscreen. Command-L invokes looping.
Check playback on the hardware first (and with plenty of time for a re-do). I’m concerned you mention “iBook” rather than Macbook. The iBooks are getting a bit long in the tooth, probably don’t have QuicktimeX installed and may have trouble playing hi def footage of any codec. Make sure they have the right adapters to hand, too.
