    What would be a good video sequence to test software/hardware mpeg-2 encoders ? Action, high contrast, brights colors, many cuts ?

    I would suggest all of the above if you are planning to encode that type of video. Also, testing interlaced and progressive source if necessary is good.

    And if you’re testing for a particular application, nothing beats testing the kind of content you’re expecting to use as source. The closer your test source is to what you want to use, the better.
