how is the WNV encoder in Parallels vs. Bootcamp? obviously using Parallels avoids the reboot … is there any significant diference in the speed of the encoding? (although booting into Windows on my MBP is fast and physically painless, i’m sure its doing untold damage to my karma )
cheers

August 4, 2006 at 7:45 pmDon’t have an Intel Mac yet (but that’ll happen for sure). I’d imagine BootCamping it would be a bit faster I suspect since WMV encoding can be processor intensive. It depends on how heavy the number of clips or the duration.
I actually have a Dell 2.8Ghz PentiumD on a network and I often hit 100% processor usage on that.
I do use Flip4Mac and think the 640×480 output is fine though. The new Flip4Mac 2.1.0.33 is much faster than the earlier version but certainly not as fast as doing it in Windows. I use Flip4Mac in Compressor and go right back to editing in FCP while Compressor rendors.
Keep in mind there are currently some issues to WME rendering whether BootCamp or using a PC. MOV files still hit the 2GB limit! You can export out to DV or DVCPro50 AVI from FCP and you don’t have to worry about the 2GB limit BUT there’s no way to output a DVCPro100 file to AVI though!
