  • Best export for web settings?

Posted by Shea a.j. Comfort on February 16, 2012 at 2:20 am

    Hello everyone,

I have Compressor and FCPX. I am working in SD (equipment I have at work…). What is the best way to export movies for the web (YouTube, etc). I will not be doing any other delivery for the movies.

Reading Larry Jordan’s forum for FCP7, he seems to suggest that it is best to export full resolution from FCP, then go into Compressor and do the final movie for the web.

Is this still so with FCPX? Is it acceptable to use the «export using Compressor settings» within FCPX? Is this not the same thing?

    Any help or info appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.

Go to Share > YouTube, put in account info, select size, go home.

    Shea,
I’ve found through painful experience, so far, that it is ‘desirous’ to export at full res from FCPX and then let Compressor do its thing.
On a recent project I became all tied up using the “Send to Compressor” option that seemingly tied up my machine for far too long compared to a simple Cmd+E.
Also, “Export using Compressor settings” will do the business but I find it slower.
At the end of the day, CMD+E; grab a cup of tea and then start on your next project while Compressor knocks your file into shape.

    Regards,

    Lawrence

When you Share to YouTube as Jason Jenkins indicated, specify your maximum resolution that you have used while editing the material. YouTube will generate that and all the smaller sizes so the end user will select the size they want to display.
