Best editing codec for DaVinci Resolve
Hi folks,
I’m new to this community and have just built up a new 4k workstation to work with DaVinci Resolve.
Components work well, apart from the fact that the new 15 Beta2 version is crashing.
But I think Blackmagic will soon bring a Beta 3 version.
My system is:
Imacpro, Intensity 4k, Netstor TB3 raid.
Now my question at the beginning:
What is the best editing codec to work with davinci.
I’m migrating from FCP/Avid. In FCP we’ve transcoded all camera files into ProRes422. Avid does this nearly automatic into DNX.
Most of our projects are big – let’s say between 5TB – 10TB 4k data. The footage is a mix of different cameras and codecs. We have 2 Panasonic cams DVX200, 2 JVC’s 180, DJI Phantom 3 4k, Blackmagic Studio camera etc.
Basically all different codecs. My idea is that we stick to the ProRes422 codec. So all footage is transferred into ProRes 422 before editing. Or shall we work with ProRes 422HQ? Or another codec which is more suitable for Davinci?
You comments are welcome.
Another question is: Are there any good ideas how to organize the footage so that it is optimized for davinci?
You hear, I’m a newby and need some advice from you Pros out there.thanks,
Rainer
