Best drive configuration for Adobe Premiere
Hi,
I am a hobbyist and I would like to start learning how to do video editing. I plan to edit our 4K home videos so there’s no professional work involved. Anyway, what I would like to know is how to best configure my SSD/Hard drive for Adobe premiere.
I shoot using my Sony a7rii for photo and Sony AX33 for video (4K).
What I do = Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere (learning now), After effects (will learn in the future). No games.
My system:
I7-6800K (overclocked moderately)
Noctua NH-D15s CPU Fan
Asus X99 Deluxe/U3.1 Motherboard
Asus GT660i (soon to be GTX1070 or should I go 1080?)
Gskill Ripjaws4 32GB RAM (should I go 64GB?)
Corsair AX860 power supply
Phanteks Evolv Tempered Glass Case
Benq 32” BL3201PH 4K monitor
Xrite i1 DisplayMy drives: (should I configure it this way or something else?)
Samsung 850 Pro 512GB SSD = OS/Programs/Media Cache/Media Cache database
Samsung 950 Pro 512GB M.2 = Project files/Audio files/Scratch Disk/Preview
Western Digital RE 6TB Hard drive = Photo Storage / Video Storage / Autosave / Exports
Western Digital Black 4TB Hard drive = Backup -

The configuration you have planned looks good. You want your operating system and After Effects to be on the SSD’s or fastest drives to allow for the most productive and lag free workflow. Your project media, if you have space you may want to put them on an SSD too, but that is not as important as having the software on the SSD.

I saw this post and had one question. Obviously the OS should be on an SSD, but my question pertains to the type of ssd.. meaning is it better to have the scratch on the m.2 which is MUCH faster than the other ssd that is SATA, or should the OS be on the m.2?
