    Hello!

I’m editing hdv footage to be finally exported at standard def.
I’d rather have used a dv timeline but it’s a spec commercial so the director want’s to be ready to prnit hhd if things go well.

Any how I think the standard def exports look a little soft, compared to the hd footage. I understand the basice but still I think it looks soft.

I’m wondering what the best way to spit out HD to standard def is using PP2!

Or maybe you could point me to a tutorial that shows the various methods.

    Thanks for you time.

Also I could export the whole thing in HD resolution and bump it down in after effects, is this a good idea?

    Cheers!

I’ve actually been editing in Aspect HD and exporting to SD MPEG2 for DVD. It works quite well.

Exporting SD DV, and then to DVD would not produce the same quality level as going direct from HD to DVD…

Is your output to tape for delivery, or to DVD? If to DVD what TK says about the Mpeg2 conversion to DVD works good, if to tape for SD what I do is export as HDV to the cam then let the cam downconvert to DV while dubbing to a deck.

OK so how do you export to MPeg 2, adobe media endocer?

So are we all in agreement that HDV—>SD AVI looks like sh!t?

    Cheers!

Well…I’m not sure I’d phrase it that way…but feeding HDV or just HD to the Adobe Media Encoder to go straight to SD MPEG2 for DVD would be better.

What is it with the language on this board today?

    Sorry about the language.
If you don’t mind asking one more question:
So to get the highest quality video for broadcast would I would send a video dvd that had been created with this method?

    Cheers!

If thats what the client requested, there is no standard format except what the client wants.

I used this export method and then output an avi from AE after color correcting it.

    It looks 10 time better!!!!

    Thanks for the tips!

    Cheers!
