    Hi.

I have created a video for a client to continuously play on their in-house monitor. I found out that their playback system is as follows: MacMini, 52” LCD 1080i, DVI-HDMI Cable.

Most of the video is graphics created in After Effects, which I can easily scale. Some is footage shot on DV NTSC 24p, which I hope will uprez reasonably well. Unfortunately I am unable to visit the client and test their system with different files. Does anyone have experience with a similar setup? Should I create a 1080i file, 1080p, anything else? Do you suggest I uprez my video in AE? (I’m running FCP 5.1.4 here). And is there a data rate too high for a MacMini? Can it choke on too much H.264?

    Thanks.
    Alec.

Is there a player of some kind, or do they simply play full-screen QTs (something else?) from the MacMini? More info is needed to make a recommendation.

It’s tough not being able to test it out. My first inclination is to use H.264. Maybe you can test a mini at an Apple Store. Makeup a few short H.264 files at different data rates and see how they play. And I’d get the data rate up to 6Mbps. That is a similar data rate to one that would look good on a DVD.

You will need to ensure that the Mac mini is recent enough to handle 1080i h.264 files – they need a fair bit of processing – my home 1.66 Ghz one (which is a few years old) will only do 720p.
