Best CS5.5 built-in de-noising solution or purchase Neat Video?
Hi
Can any experienced ‘de-noiser’s share their experience with a novice ‘de-noiser’?Can I approach the quality of a 3rd party plugin like Neat Video using ONLY built in effects in either PPro or AE?
Or should I simply get Neat Video, and forget any built-in solution?
And is it always wise to apply de-noising as the first step in any post workflow?Local is the new global

You’re asking very general questions. If you have an example of something that you want to remove the noise from, then maybe we can tell you what the best approach is. In some cases, the Remove Grain effect is right; in some cases a little blur; in some cases, the Median effect…

There are many good resources for noise removal here.
If you’re just getting rid of color noise in areas of flat color, then applying the Median effect to just the areas of flat color can be enough. One way to generate a matte that defines areas of flat color is using the Cartoon effect with the Render property set to Edges.
