    HI all,

I need to re-edit a program in FCP. My footage is BetaSP material. I have a considerable amount but wish to digitize at a compression that will enable me to not have to go back and do an on-line re-dig.
Would pro-res HQ be the best option for Beta SP footage?
Also, would SDI be a better input than component? or is there much of a difference?

    Thanks

8-bit uncompressed or ProRes (non-HQ) will both do fine. You could splurge and go 10-bit or ProRes HQ, but you probably won’t notice much difference other than larger file sizes.

SDI is better than componenet because there is no D to A conversion.

How are you connecting the Beta deck to your MAcintosh for capture?

Going 10 bit is overkill, as Beta is 8 bit.

    Have a wonderful day.

[Chris Poisson] “going 10 bit is overkill, as Beta is 8 bit.”
Chris, Beta SP is Analog components.
The higher the bit depth when digitizing an analog signal, the best.
    10b better than 8b.
When you digitize audio you can increase the sample rate (44.1, 48, 96 Khz) and the bit depth (8, 16, 24 bits) to get a better signal.
In digital video each standard have a sample rate that you can not change, but you can use a higher bit depth to get a better signal too.

Funny, but I misread the original post from the get go. I saw the SDI and immediately thought Todd was asking about DigiBeta. So, I would agree with Rafael, 10-bit isn’t all bad, but ProRes works just fine as well.

    thanks everyone to your input.
I will be coming out component to the kona 2 card. Or would it be better to come out component to an AJA component to SDI converter then to a kona 3 card. Seems it would be same.
