Hi. I have a HD project and I am trying to create a DVD. I have tried several methods and I am still trying to get the best quality. I am wondering if any of you have an opinion about which encoder gives the best results (all done at a post house with professional equipment – not what I have at home.

The project can be provided as an HDCAM tape or a ProResHQ HD Quick Time movie.

I have spoken to several people and keep getting different preferences.
I have used the following software encoders: CCE MP, Compressor, Bit Vice, the encoder bundled with Scenarist. People have mentioned the Cinema Craft professional and DigiRapids.

Any experience using any of these?

    Thanks, Connie

In order of quality I’d have to say:

Equal 1st – CinemaCraft and Scenarist
    2nd Bitvice
    3rd Compressor
    4th Digital Rapids

You did miss out one however and that’s Carbon Coder, the speed and quality of its MPEG-2 output when set to ‘Mastering Quality’ mode is stunning.

However there are many other factors to take into consideration when choosing an encoder and depending on your priorities and workflow preferences the order of the above would change completely.
