    Hi all

Usually My media is destined for DVD in which case I export my timeline as uncompressed 8bit or pro res etc, then import into compressor to make into an mpg2.This seems to give the best results.

First Q. Is this the best way to do it? surely expotring as an uncomp codec as opposed to current settings(dv or HDV)will yield better results.

Second Q. What is the best codec to use when my media is detined for playback a/on a computer on windows and mac media players…

B/ to be used to inbed into a presentation?

Ive heard that H.264 is quite good, or what about just a uncompressed 8bit quicktime file?

    Thanks

[peter crawford] “surely expotring as an uncomp codec as opposed to current settings(dv or HDV)will yield better results.”

Not true! Export using current settings is exactly the same as what is on your timeline, no better and no worse. Exporting your way as an uncompressed file simply yields a bigger file.

If you are interested in actually making an improvement, you can change the compressor in the sequence settings to uncompressed or Pro Res, and then re-render. That will also create a larger file size when you export, but at least your graphics will be rendered essentially uncompressed. Doing it your way simply renders the graphics to the whatever the timeline was originally set to, then you were exporting that as a bigger file.

    Flash or h.264.

That depends upon the app you’re using and the platform, however H.264 is quickly becoming the predominant choice now that Adobe is using it as well as Apple.
