A client wants to make lots of films themselves…
They want to spend a little on the camera (£100) But I think for like £300 would be better…
They will send the camera around and feed footage back to me.
Anyone have any views on this?

I’m PAL as you may have guessed

Camera type? Sony and panasonic have idiot-proof HD versions – good route?
Recording format – SD card? Tape doesn’t seem popular with them…
    AVCHD?
Are there issues with AVCHD into FCP??

Anyone had experience of using domestic cameras to produce this sort of stuff??

EDIT – woops, and then I look down the list and see the same question – only NTSC

£100 is pushing your luck a bit, think £600-800. I have a Canon Legria which produces amazing pictures for the price and size of the camera. The current version is the HF S200.

Don’t forget that you need good sound too, and the Canon has an external mic socket. It records on SDHC cards – probably the future medium for everything below the feature film level. The format is AVCHD – a bit of a pain – but I get it in to FCP using Clipwrap.

As you can see, you definitely are not going the professional route.

    You have time to learn.
