April 29, 2008 at 4:29 amI know you were looking at breakout boxes, but if you were looking for a really decent and cheap solution with HDMI and component out, id take a look at Blackmagic’s Intensity Pro, @ $349 its a really decent card, with HDMI i/o. Its PCIe, but only works on Mac Pros (No G5s). Now if you need more than that, i’d go for an Io HD.

hmm… I wonder what this button does…

April 29, 2008 at 7:19 amI was looking at some BMD cards, but found the possibilities with the AJA Kona Io HD are more what we’re after.
It’s great to get some experiences with the Kona’s as well.
Thanks a lot guys!
I will forward this post to my boss! 🙂

April 29, 2008 at 9:49 pmHi guys,
Just so there’s no mis-understanding with regards to what the MXO2 does in hardware and in the host.
It is true that the MXO2 doesn’t do any encoding or decoding in the hardware, that is handled by the host system…all scaling/conversions (up/down and cross) are done in realtime in the hardware.cheers,
Joe

Good to have the manufacturers participate in the threads to ensure the information is accurate.

May 1, 2008 at 3:13 pmThanks for making me feel welcome Walter 🙂
There’s been a lot of talk about the MXO2 with uncompressed and with ProRes…I feel I should also point out that it works with more than just those two…because it interfaces with QuickTime, it’s QT that handles the compression/decompression and thus the MXO2 will function with whatever codec QT supports on the particular system that’s being used.
That combined with the calibration utility for HDMI monitors, and it’s light weight make it a very versatile attractive option.
cheers,
Joe
