I’m going to be desaching my horror film to almost Black & White.
There will be just a hint of some color – I don’t know what color yet.
How best do I achieve these results. Do Nattress filters do that or should I stick with FCP?
And do I have to do it to each clip or make a longer movie first to apply to?

    Thanks!

If it’s a pro project, you want a good b&w film filter for the proper effect. The DFT 55mm filters are excellent, as are Sapphire. Magic Bullet has some beautiful preset b&w ‘looks’.

If you can’t splash the cash, see if you can get some render time on a system that has one of these installed. Making video Black and White is not as simple as desaturating it – it’s about contrast, film gamma, etc. I have not used the Natress set, although you will find many fans here. With some of the more expensive filter sets I have mentioned, you really do get what you pay for.

If this project matters to you, render it out as is, then run it though one of the above.

I haven’t try the DFT 55mm filter or Sapphire neather the Nattress (I’ve just bouth it), but a really agreed with Ben. Don’t miss the B&W Crunch of MagicBullet.

Wow. I didn’t know that. So is it not equivalent to do a simple “desaturate” and then manually adjust contrast, etc.?

    Thanks,

You can do it like that, but there are few other technics that produce much B&W photo-like image.
