  • Best B-Roll storage option for AVCHD?

What is the best way to store B-Roll footage when using a AVCHD camera? Is it best to start a B-Roll Sequence with many labeled Bins? The clips could then be copied to other Sequences when needed? I’m obviously running out of storage space on my Vixia HG20. I’m also considering a separate hard drive for B-Roll only, especially since I’m using a Macbook Pro and a separate scratch disc for my work. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Another hard drive for storage of clips would be an OK idea, but drives fail… if your clips really are critical and can’t be lost there are better archive solutions (but not cheap), but a dual set of clips stored on two( or more) separate drives is fairly safe. That said, you certainly can just put them on your external drive, create a project file that organizes them in bins. You can drag and drop bins, sequences or just clips at will between project files too.

Thanks so much Jerry. Your answer helps. I’m eventually going to run out of space on my Canon Vixia, so I needed to see if anyone had a better option than starting a project file strictly for B-Roll. It looks as if this may be the best way, especially since my budget is tight.
