I’m trying to bend a plane with a sphere. This is very hard to describe so I’ll use this image as a demo:

(ignore the red lines in the image)

Basically, I would like to bend a plane in C4D with a sphere in the same way that the sun bends the grid in the image above.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

Add a collision deformer to the plane (make it a child of the plane), and under the collision deformers “Colliders” menu drag your sphere to the Objects window.

either Proximal in a material’s Displacement on the plane (set to the sphere) or a Plain defector set to Deformer would work

Thank you to both Brian Jones and Jim Scott for the quick responses. I’m afraid to say I found a way to get the effect I wanted in Photoshop. In hindsight, C4D was probably never the tool for me to use in that situation.

I don’t have time to try out your suggestions but I expect they would work very well too.

    Thanks again 🙂

Slightly off-topic now, but in case anyone was wondering how exactly I got that effect in Photoshop, here’s a really good thread:
