  • Bend (into a slight cylinder) a layer but in 3d

    Hi There,

I imagine this should be simple, but right now I can see how to do it.

I basically have a layer (or comp) that I want to bend, like in a slight cylinder, or almost slight spherize I guess, but in the z axis (so bend in 3d)

Not sure what I am on about? See the attached pic, its probably more self explanatory

I could do this in 3d software such as cinema4d, but Im sure AE can do this simple bend cant it?

No. AE cannot bend a layer in 3-space without Forge Freeform, which maps the layer onto a NURBS patch, if I recall.

However … if you want to map the layer to a really big cylinder, AE 6.5 can do that with the perspective>CC Cylinder effect, one of the Cycore filters installed from the AE CD. There are also other third-party cylinder plugins from Conoa and Boris.

Thanks for your reply! Im having a go now with the Boris FX, doesnt look like it supports the 3D camera however, but I think I can do it none the less

Thanks for taking the time out to reply
