I have a logo in Illustrator that has a swirl in it which is similar to this https://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/5283064/2/istockphoto_5283064-flowing-lines-background.jpg in that the shapes are tapered and bent around a cylinder-shaped hole.

So, being certifiable, I’d like to animate the shapes along the path of the swoosh and I’ve been trying to figure out a way to do that. I can’t use Ribbon effect as the shapes are all tapered at the end and vary in width along the length of them. I wish I could, that would solve the problem as I’ve done that before. Unfortunately, my 3DS skills aren’t the best, so animating the shapes there may not work either, but I’m willing to take a bash at it.

I have a feeling that the only way to do any sort of animation on this would be to use 3D stroke to animate lines along the path, apply a shine/starglow type filter and wipe in the actual shape in behind but I thought I’d ask first if anyone else has a better idea or has tackled a similar problem before.

    Thanks!

From what I see, you are correct in that 3D Stroke would be perfect for this – You can animate the path and have it tapered…
