    Hey All.

Earlier I was playing around with a panoramic scene in aae. And i wanted to create a look simulator to one of those 3d previews (you can do you for some hotel rooms for instance). And I realize that you can fool the camera by breaking up the shots and rotating them to face the camera, but I would like to bend the pic. I want to bend it into a semisphere. If any one could tell me how to bend any type of way. I would be grateful. And I could put in the grunt work to try to achieve the desired effect.

You can’t bend layers in After Effects. Everything within AE is strictly flat.

You can try Trapcode Horizon which will simulate the effect, but is still just camera trickery (very advanced trickery at that).

You could try Optics Compensation on a wide angle camera comp.
Otherwise I’d create a cross environment from six square 90degree cameras and bring it into Realviz Stitcher or similar program, where you can convert it into cylindric, panoramic or spherical formats.

What in the question am I missing? This sounds like a simple case of having a large precomp with the photos you want in it then either a)make it extra wide or b) tell CC Cylinder to render the inside only in a new comp. If it needs to be even more rounded, make the precomp even larger, with more empty space, and use CC Sphere.

Is there something else funny about it? You can’t really control it with a 3d camera (without expressions), but you can certainly pan a “warped” image.

actually, with cc sphere, you can’t get ‘inside’ the sphere…. cc cylinder should work well and it will work with a 3d camera. it would be my choice, and would work quite well if you had software that could take several images and stitch them together as a panoramic image (or had a panoramic image to start with).

cycore does offer a plugin as part of their cycorefx hd package that will create a virtual panoramic type environment, allowing you to move a camera about and have photographic scene move with it. i think it is called cc environment. you might take a look at it on cycorefx.com.

Okay… that’s nice. I’ve had a lot of luck with the .jsx file and expressions there. This would give you camera control without having to link it up to CC Cylinder; I like it!
