After spending years trying to learn a 3D program, I bought Anne Powers great Cinema 4D The Artist’s Project Book (too bad there’s no e-mail address for her). The projects have REALLY helped straighten the learning curve. I’m running C4D 9.1 and unfortunately the book was written for 8.5 so there have been some differences in nomenclature.

One problem that I’ve been having is when adding a light to the capsule (the Cosmic receiver Project), it says use the Transfer (under Function) and to type in “CA” (for capsule) to align the light with the capsule. Unfortunately, the transfer modes are all greyed out and I can’t type anything in the box.

Also, when I quit C4D and re-open, I’m always in the ‘user menu 1’ layout (which doesn’t have the Edit, Objects, Tools, Selection, Structure, etc. across the menu bar – I always have to switch to Standard or Modeling to get then back… What causes this?

Plus, the Move Function seems way different. Do I select a Mode before I can either move, scale or rotate? And after using a Function (in 8.5) does it automatically create a Null object?

    thanks,

    Hi

Try dragging the object into the ‘transfer to’ tab this should allow it.

Also instead of selecting ‘Standard’ or ‘Modeling’ select ‘Cinema 4D Menu’ and see if this helps.
