Hi I’m totally new. I wanna ask if AE can do all the works to create 1 full movie or just compose scene by scene(or fottage by fottage) then construct all in Premiere?

I was asking this because I cannot extend my layer in AE. When I drop a video to the timeline, it’s not showing all. Can someone please teach me how to do it. But please answer my first question so that I shall know the workflow. to keep me in the right direction.

    thanks

You can Import Premiere Projects into AE (so do your edit in Premiere then Import for Effects work in AE), even copy and Paste, I think, see this:

For details, check the Help Files for either AE or Premiere.

Make sure you’re only using AE for footage where you need an effect. The difference between AE and, say, Premiere, is that Premiere can be used such that it never creates new frames of footage. In other words, you’re just telling the computer in what order and for how long to play each clip your existing footage that you have loaded in. But in After Effects, the program assumes that you’re wanting to manipulate the look of the footage, and therefore, you’ll actually be creating new frames, making new footage. This is called rendering. (Sorry if I’m telling what you already know, but you said you’re a beginner.) Rendering takes time. Sometimes lots and lots of time.

So, if you’re asking, can you work on an entire movie in AE?, the answer is, yes. But would you want to? Probably not. Just use AE for the frames you need to use it on. Some movies (like 300, or SkyCaptain and the World of Tomorrow, or a gazillion others) have such a stylized look that it’s pretty clear that the entire movie, every frame, has been adjusted digitally. And Gladiator and O Brother, Where Art Thou? have been colorized all the way through, though not with After Effects, I don’t think. So if you need to do that, edit it all in something else, and then bring that into After Effects, and then take a short vacation, then come home a few days later and it’ll be done rendering.

As far as workflow goes, yes, as noted by someone else, Adobe has made it much easier to import Premiere projects into After Effects. Just make sure you do your editing in Premiere, then your effects and only your effects in After Effects, and your life will be much easier.

first of all, sorry for posting in the wrong place.

second, thanks for all your tips. it’s all informative. i’ll try to play around and come back again if question arises in my head. i’m sure i will have 15 million more questions to ask. just kidding. what i meant is AE is very broad and i’m still in nursery. hope you guys can help me in the way.

    thanks again.

i always edit in Premiere pro first. then bring the whole package into AE. give the footage nice color correction and put all my stunning effects to it. then render out in AE.

    here something you can do:

-Edit your clip/movie in Premiere. than save your project.

-open After Effects. file>import, then import your Premiere Pro project file.

-now you see your clips in the project panel and very important a sequence file.

-double click on that sequence file (important: do not move it into the timeline, just double click). and all your seperate scenes/shots/files (cut in Premiere pro) appear in the timeline in AE as seperated layers (also transitions and styles from Premiere PRo are imported).

-then use coole effects on them separedly. if you wanne render in AE, your done here.

    render out in Premiere :

-then save your AE file. and if you wanna render it out in Premiere pro, just open the AE project file in Premiere.

-then only 1 clip will appear, but you’ve edit this the first time in PP and allready applied effects on it in AE, so no prob there 🙂

There is also a dynamic link feature. but that’s only recommanded if you wanna put 1/ a few special effect/dvd menu or whatever from AE to PRemiere pro. then if you make changes in AE it will automaticly update in your PRemiere pro project. pretty cool stuff.

hope this helps you finding a overal view of all this
