Beachtek/Vixia HF200 HISS!!!
The Canon Vixia HF200 has a stereo mic input. Our school uses Beachtek audio adapters so we can use our XLR based microphones but when editing in Final Cut, Premiere or Avid, we get hiss. Even unlinking the audio channels and removing the second channel with the most host, we still get hiss on the main audio channel where we have placed a lav on our camera talent. On top of that, to avoid hiss I’ve doubled miced all talent via the Beachtek and set it to Stereo and then as mono. Still Hiss. We have ten of these Canon Vixia HF200’s and all have brand new Beachtek Adapters and all audio has this hiss sound. Of course if you remove the Beachtek and go with the on-camera mic your sound does not have the hiss, but you have to get in the face of your talent. You can’t use wireless mics of course & audio is horrible. I still have not used a condenser mic with an XLR to 1/8th jack, but my guess is I might still get hiss. Will test that next. Any ideas?
