    Hi

Everytime I delete something of my timeline the beachball appears and it takes about 10 seconds to delete?

I trashed the preferences but it didn’t make any difference 🙁

What other reason that might be causing this? any ideas?

    Thanks

    Zee

How long is your project? How long are your original clips? Do you have any graphics that are overly large?

    Hi there,thanks for the reply.

The project is 160meg, and the sequence is about 100 mins there is about 1.27tb worth of footage. The footage is mainly consists of half hour tapes. I have no overly large graphics.

PS: I have just run repair permissions, then re-started the mac but this didn’t solve anything. I have heard of a Disk Warrior programme that re-builds the start up disk directory. I wonder if this worth trying??

Also one last thing if there is a corrupt file something that was imported from a CD or DVD, Is there a way of detecting this? I heard that there is a programme for AVID users that does this.

    Thanks

    Zee.

Are your storage drives full or fragmented? I had this problem on a Doc. I edited recently. Tech Tool might help too.

    Hi

I have just opened an older version of the project from the autosave vault. Surprisingly this version does not have the same problem which rules out any storage issues I guess. It might be a corrupt file that I must have imported since then.

However I am not sure how to go about finding this corrupt file. Is there a programme that can do this?

I think this also might mean that the project is corrupted, is there a way of fixing a corrupt project?

Sorry too many questions but any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

Interesting…..I am having a similar problem…..I cant even export a certain section….once I delete that section all is fine……what I would to as a quick way to find what frames are giving you the issues….use compressor to export, it will tell you the frames as it exports and if it crashes, look at what frame it crashes on….then go into FCP and switch your timeline from TC to Frames….this will give you an idea of where you can start deleting footage from your timeline…..if that erases the issue…you will then have to recapture that footage….

It could be one of the effects you’ve applied. Try removing anything you added recently and see if that helps the problem (rendering or an update maybe the answer). Of course make sure you have plenty of empty space on your drives (15 – 20% or so) and plenty of memory installed. There’s many other possibilities, but you have to help us narrow it down a little. If you haven’t repaired the drive with an app Disk Warrior or Disk Utility please do that (don’t forget the permissions). Deleting the FCP prefs and caches is always a good place to start as well. You could also try importing the current project into a new project to see if that helps. I could probably go on and on, but at least try some of those things and see if it helps.

    Hi Tony

Thank you very much for your e-mail.

I think you have solved my problem. I had done everything but trying the sequence in a new project. (which I actually thought about when I got home last nite then of course forgot about it until I read your reply to my post this morning.

I have just copied the sequence and pasted it into a new project and my problem is gone!

Also I never imported a project into a new project is it just a matter of file import then select the project I want to import. ?

    Thanks again.

    Zee 🙂

[Zeliha] “I have just copied the sequence and pasted it into a new project and my problem is gone!”

Your project or your sequence was corrupt then. It’s a good idea to duplicate your sequences and project files from time to time (especially on long projects) to avoid this from happening.
