I’m running FCPX 10.4.3 in High Sierre 10.13.6. 16 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3, 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7, Radeon Pro 560 4096 MB Intel HD Graphics 630. My project is 1080p, H.264 Linear PCM files at 23.98. I’m editing off two 8TB G-Tech Raid drives with Thunderbolt. And man, am I getting playback issues.

Beach ball anytime I copy and paste. If I attempt to play out to an external monitor, workflow grinds nearly to a halt. My timeline is currently only 15 minutes long, and in the past I have gotten projects – in 4K, on this machine – to edit fine well into the 40 minute range before it slowed down.

Any thoughts? Are my drives the issue?

    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Is it a laptop?

Have you turned the auto switching graphics off in the energy saver prefs?

What disk speed are you getting on the drives?

Also do you have any big compute filters on the footage like neat video?

Thanks for your reply. Will try switching off auto graphics.

7200. Drives should be plenty fast enough for 1080.

no, i’m avoiding filters for now because they slow everything down so much.

i tried your suggestions, to no avail. copy and paste continues to take 20-30 seconds, which seems truly insane to me given my system.
