Has anyone tried the Sony upgrade for the BDP-S1 for BD R/RE?
If so, does it play an M2T file copied from a HDV camera? The question is what else would Sony expect the user to play from a burnt BD R/RE? Possibly jpeg stills. BD-J or HDMV could perhaps be derived from an M2T file but the added authoring process would no doubt degrade the guality further and make little sense compared to a component connection straight from the camera to a full HD (1920×1080) compliant flatscreen. A durable way of watching HDV material, without wear on the sensitive DV cassette, still appears elusive.

The BDP-S1 plays BD-R/BD-RE discs authored in standard BDMV format (such as produced by Roxio DVDit ProHD). It does not play .m2t transport streams (which is BDAV format that none of the Blu-ray players support as far as I know).

The software that comes with the Sony Blu-ray burner will do what your want, however playback must be on PC via the Cybervision software player.

According to Sony representatives the new BDP-S500 does support M2T files (without re-authoring) on BD R/RE which sounds good if it is true! It would more than likely also hold for the new BDP-2000ES, but Sony so far don
