We are running the After Effects trial of BCC9.0.1 on Macpros and various Windows machines. The FX Browser works as expected when the composition contains external media but with 3D text produced by the plugin we just get a black screen in the preview window.

    Hi Jim-
With the 3D text you can’t stack filters and be able to see them in the FX Browser. If you were to pre-comp the text and apply it over the media you’d be able to pull off what you’re looking for.

Surely that makes the FX Browser virtually useless, most people use BCC for its titling abilities

The other approach to take is to apply the FX Browser to an adjustment layer above the clips and preview that way. You’re right in that the standard workflow doesn’t entirely work.

Why does the Boris website show The FX Browser displaying 3D text when it does not work?

    Jim-
Again, it can preview 3D text. If you create a title with 3D extruded text you can preview it on it’s own. However, applying another filter to it, say film process, without precomposing will make it so you cannot see the 3D text.
