BCC Noise Reduction
Posted by Brian Tallant on December 11, 2012 at 12:47 amThis question might be mainly for John Rofrano.
I was under the impression that Boris FX made a noise reduction plug in for Sony Vegas Pro (I saw John Rofrano demonstrate it on a video recently). However, I can’t find it. I have some footage shot in low light and I need to reduce the noise, so if anyone has a suggestion for which plug in to use, I would be grateful.

December 11, 2012 at 3:39 amYes, that’s the video I watched. But I can’t find the plug-in on the Boris website.

December 11, 2012 at 3:39 amYes, Boris does have a noise reduction filter and its available
in Boris Continuum Complete (Image restoration), you can however
purchase only the Image Restoration unit if you dont want the
entire suite. Still my ultimate choice in noise
reduction tasks is Neat Video.Steve Rhoden

December 11, 2012 at 3:40 amThanks, Steve. I downloaded that Image Restoration unit, but it didn’t have Noise Reduction in it. Did I make a mistake somewhere?

December 11, 2012 at 6:52 pmYes Steve is not engaging in hyperbole. Neat Video is x@#*}^# Amazing. BCC Noise reduction ends up blurring the pixels much more than Neat Video does. The only advantage that BCC has is the built in pixel chooser that most of the BCC plugins have… but considering the final output it is not enough to consider using over Neat.

December 11, 2012 at 7:52 pmI’ve been using both Neat and NewBlueFX for noise reduction. While I like the latter’s output at times for video that has no area to analyze, much of the time I find it blurring out the noise at the expense of the sharpness of the video. No presets in NBFX that I recall either. I think that Neat’s design in having the user choose a sample of video where noise can be easily eliminated and using that as a baseline to remove the noise else seems most effective. That Boris clip is very nice and it’s clear they put a lot of time and effort into identifying all kinds of noise. Impressive.
