We shot three short plays yesterday – or rather a play in three acts. Three cameras and audio on a 552 with everything timecode locked (using the excellent timecode buddy system).

We shot multiple takes of various bits and not always in sequence.

The editor has a small amount of time to generate a rough cut so I want to give him a help by delivering him the rushes in a project in a way it makes sense. Of course it would have helped having a logger but….

Is there a simple way to batch generate multi clips – a bit like sync n link does for separate audio as I reckon that would be better than having one long clip?.

    Open to all ideas.

As I said there a lot of picks ups and bit’s out of sequence. For instance: we had four actors and in one act one actor was playing three parts with costume changes so we shot all his appearances as character A first, then all of B and all of C but in the play it goes something like A B C B C A.

For a number of reasons there wasn’t either a script supervisor or a logger, so my biggest concern about just doing three multi clips is that it would make it harder to navigate the material.

    Michael,

Seems like the database would chew through this.

Sync the performances – not the takes as required. I then like to HIDE REJECTED to remove the original non-synced clips so I can concentrate on just my “new” sync sound source clips – Then Range tag the “takes” of Character A Line A (CALA tag?) etc.

(If you want, you can also use a “performance quality” tag (perhaps 1 star to 5 star numbers?)

Then FIND your 5star lines – sort by line rather than character – which will put your takes in the final script order.

Then select them in the EB and tap W.

That should get you the entire piece constructed of “best takes” organized by script line.

    Seems a perfect X process.

Also, as to batch syncing you might want to check out IA’s Sync&Link – I understand it has much more robust batch syncing than whats built into X.
