To (a) make my project smaller, and (b) enable tagging in the Media Manager, I want to convert all my subclips into video files.
I can load subclips into the timeline one at a time, and render the timeline. Or I can load all the subclips into the timeline, and select one at a time as a region, and render selected region only. I don’t see much if any advantage of this 2nd method. Both are terribly slow. Is there a faster method?
By “make my project smaller”, I mean I want to reduce or eliminate the # of hour-long source videos, and just have the several short clips from each video. That will make my project more portable/share-able, and I think faster too.
I was surprised I could not find the answer(s) in the documentation or support forums. I thought this would be a fairly common desire. Am I totally off-track?
    Thank you.

I found: The Batch Render script (comes with Vegas 8, perhaps earlier versions too), lets you choose to render regions. I thought it was just to render the entire project to multiple formats. (It also lets you batch render a selection.)

So: I can add all my subclips to the timeline, then IF I CAN MAKE ALL [subclips-on-the-timeline] “REGIONS”, I can use the Batch Render script.
(**Can I instantly make all [segments] on a timeline Regions?**)

BUT the subclip name is lost. The output file is just myfilename_-_render_format_name_-_1.avi or similar.

Re: “the subclip [made region] name is lost” via Batch Render (regions),

Edward Troxel (of JETDV.com) created a script for this purpose (there is a version for Vegas 7 and for Vegas 8, along with some preceding info), which is in this thread:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/876718#876721

    That leaves this challenge:

**Can I instantly make all [segments] on a timeline Regions?**
(with region names derived from subclip names)
