I’m involved in animation production and will need to extract AIF sound from a whole bunch of Quicktimes (probably around 300 or so.) Any ideas on how this could be done in an automated, batch process? I guess I could set up a render queue in After Effects but it seems like there should be an easier way.

Quicktime has a scripting dictionary for Applescript, so you should be able to create something without too much trouble:

I use Cleaner. Drag them in, set up your parameters, hit go, and go home.

As Scott says, Cleaner is great, but to save you some money, you should be able to set this up in compressor. Set up your own custom preset with destination & filename, include just the audio no video, apply the preset to all movies and let the computer do the work.
