Activity Forums Avid Media Composer Batch .MXF import (easier way)

Those are the raw files, so that’s what you will want to import into Avid via the Source Browser. You got lucky that the director kept a copy of everything in its original file structure!

Also, in the Source Browser window in Avid, try clicking that little rectangle button on the top, just to the left of the text “1_backupUnorganized”. If you hover your mouse over the button it should identify it as “Enable to view folders as media volumes”.

I believe clicking this button will help Avid recognize the card structure so you don’t have to dive into the folder to find the footage files amongst all the .xml files and other folders the camera has made. It should present just the clips that Avid recognizes as media.

I’m not sure. On the bottom of the Source Browser, tick the button for Link instead of Import. But either way, you should be seeing the MXF files, unless the card structure has been changed enough that it doesn’t recognize it as a proper card structure.

What camera is the raw footage from?

the options are “link or import” and “load clips into source monitor”

also, the camera used “Sony FS5 and filmed in 4k S-log3 Raw Format

The director says that the cinematographer just dragged and dropped it over into the external.

[Jonathan Reed] “The director says that the cinematographer just dragged and dropped it over into the external.”

Well, with the file structure you show…that isn’t the case. Camera’s don’t make folders labeled that way.

Not meaning to nitpick, but there is no such thing as a “Digital Intermediate Technician.” The proper name for the camera department position is “Digital Imaging Technician.”

    Carry on now.

HA! Brain fart. At least I was close, and there is such a thing as Digital Intermediate…

OK, with the QT files you rendered out of Resolve…don’t just click on the DAVINCI folder…go and select all the clips. For QT, you need to select the clips themselves, not the folder containing them. Selecting the folder only works if you are brining in from the tapeless media originals.

But I see your option in the Source Browser is set to IMPORT. Yes, for that setting, you need to select the clips. Flip it to LINK and you should be able to choose the root level folder of the tapeless unorganized backup (thank god they had that) and then hit LINK…that should bring them all in, linked…then you transcode.

*But I see your option in the Source Browser is set to IMPORT. Yes, for that setting, you need to select the clips. Flip it to LINK*

The source browser settings only has two settings. 1) LINK OR IMPORT and 2) LOAD CLIPS INTO SOURCE MONITOR. there is no 1) LINK and 2) IMPORT option.

*OK, with the QT files you rendered out of Resolve*
    */*
*and you should be able to choose the root level folder of the tapeless unorganized backup (thank god they had that) and then hit LINK…that should bring them all in, linked…then you transcode.*

    So IM confused.

    1) which video files am i bringing into MC,

    A) XDROOT -> CLIP that due to you saying THANK GOD THEY HAD THAT (I’m assuming that’s the file I needed all along, the one that is directly out of the camera and won’t cause me any issues to use) Select all those clips with the setting of LINK OR IMPORT then click IMPORT in the bottom right? again, there’s no discernible way that i can see to make that “IMPORT” button say “LINK”

    OR

    B) The QT PRORESHQ versions of XDROOT -> CLIP, Select the video files and click IMPORT into it’s own bin.
