  • Batch capture fails after a couple of clips

Posted by Michael Brown on July 26, 2007 at 2:01 pm

Running PPRO 2.0 connected to a Sony DSR-1600 DVCAM Player via 1394.
After logging many clips and selecting batch capture, it will capture a few clips, then fail because it’s “unable to find an in point” for the remaining clips.
Capturing one clip at a time seems to work okay, but that defeats the whole advantage of batch capturing.
I’ve verified the timecode is valid, and have tried a couple of deck protocols with no improvement. I appreciate any advice as to where to look next.

    Mike-

What kind of TC is on your tapes (NDF or DF) and have you selected it OR did you select autoselect (which has caused problems). The times I’ve had problems with this have been either wrong TC type used in creating the batch list OR wrong type selected in the deck pull down in capture. Worth a check at least.

The TC mode for the deck is indeed set to “autodetect.” I will see if a manual setting solves the problem. What a hassle if that’s true.
My observation is that the deck is shuttling so fast that it can’t find the code.
The workaround is to park the clip a few seconds before the in point then select “batch capture” for that one clip. Again, a real pain.
    Many thanks for your help.

No. Manually setting tc mode gave the same results.
I didn’t have this problem with edit* …. but that was another life.

Okay, new thing. I now notice that the TC mode with some of the clips was not correctly logged under “autodect,” so your advice about manually setting the deck was correct. But do this before you log…
    Many thanks.
