batch capture advice
Hi, returning to Avid after a while… I had to batch capture today. The off-line footage was at 20:1 and I had to recapture at 2:1. Unfortunately the tc on the source tapes was all over the place. All shot Time Of Day but often they would use the same tape the next morning so there were lower tc numbers later on the tape, or duplicated timecodes. So the batch capture didn’t go well! Any suggestions on how to correct a 2:1 sequence where some of the clips have been skipped and are still at 20:1 and some are just the wrong images at 2:1? I ended up copying only the wrong clips into a new sequence and re-batch capturing with more care while swearing under my breadth at the “crew”. Is there a way to re-capture just one clip from a sequence? Someone suggested match framing the wrong clips, deleting the media and then just capturing off-line clips but then I would have no reference for the original sequence. Any suggestions very gratefully received.

Yes – highlight that clip in the bin and select clip>batch capture
The only way I can think of is to shuttle the deck to the proper shot, then batch capture as described.
Very much a PITA, but the only thing I can come up with on 1 cup of coffee…

Decompose the sequence, but leave the media online.
Select the 20:1 source clips in the decompose bin.
Batch capture.
As for the TC issue, before you start capturing, you can assign new reel numbers to the clips on the tape that are from the following morning. For example…Thursday night would be Reel 5, and Friday morning would be Reel 5B. That way, you can fast forward ahead before beginning capture, when you are asked to load Reel 5 B.

Hi there both, many thanks. I know I should RTFM but… how do I decompose without making the clips offline? That doesn’t seem to be an option.

Oops. How about decomposing, then relinking the 2:1 stuff. You should be able to sort the clips in the bin and do that easily.
Decompose a copy of your sequence…retain the original as is.
