We recently lost our RAID, again (it is still not functioning properly-does not have the data rates to capture HD.) Anyway, we wanted to recapture the video from an FCP project at an off-line resolution, but the batch capture tool now thinks that all of the clips are called “capture scratch”. The FCP project file (which we did not lose with the RAID) still has all of the names and metadata from the project (minus any renders that were on the RAID) and nothing is called “capture scratch”. But, the batch capture aborts repeatedly citing “duplicate file names – capture scratch.” Any ideas what is happening?

The system is a Dual 2.5 G5, 4 GB RAM, FCP HD (4.5), OS 10.3.9, KONA 2, Xserve RAID (2.9 TB, RAID 0, Dual Fibre channel)

You probably named some clips the same, but captured them to differnet partitions. Now you’re asking FCP to recapture all at once, and it’s seeing that ON your capture scratch disk there is already a file by a particular name. If I remember right, it should be offering to let you change the file name. Maybe part of the full error isn’t being shown on screen for some reason.

Try capturing one individual clip, and make sure your capture scratch disk is set only to the new disk, and not to the one you previously captured to, or attempted to capture to.

Thanks for the quick reply. Here is the baffling thing, the RAID was just striped anew after being “repaired”, so there is nothing in the capture scrtach folder on that volume, and I’m sure it is the primary scratch disk. My other problem is that I don’t have 100% confidence that the RAID is actually working (even though the raid admin says it is), but that is the volume referenced in the error message. Right now the only way to recapture the video is one clip at a time and that is not a viable option for a one-hour program.
