  • Basic short list of FCPX questions

I’m just getting into FCPX, and have a couple things that I’ve submitted as user feedback, but also wanted to pose here:

    1) I’d like to have the ability to change the “clip appearance” and “clip height” with a keyboard shortcut. I can’t change the height without going to the little light switch in the bottom right hand corner of the timeline.

    2) Any way to relink clips to media directly from the “project” ie – timeline?

    3) Can we PLEASE rename “project” to timeline or sequence? The term “project” makes absolutely no sense.

    4) If the projects are independent of the event, why are they linked? What is the purpose of selecting the related event when creating a new project?

    5) Is there a way to copy a compound clip from one event to another?

4- they are linked so that if you drag clips directly from the Finder into a Project- they will know which Event to go into by defaut.

5- Select- Copy paste should work fine.

Thank you for the response Noah, that makes sense in regards to setting the default event. Is that the only function? If I don’t use the “copy media to events” function, then is it a moot point?

Also, I can’t get this compound clip to copy from one event to another. It’s a sequence I moved from FCP7 to FCPX and it is over one hour long and has one video and audio track with about 100 markers that moved over correctly. I copy, then paste and it gives me the “doink” sound 🙁

I’ll add another question here, can FCPX handle 720p60 footage in a 30p sequence as slo-mo? Or do I need to conform it in cinema tools down to 29.97 before I bring it in?

[Jason Brown] “2) Any way to relink clips to media directly from the “project” ie – timeline?”

If you have the 10.0.3 update, there is now a Relink function, which does this.

[Jason Brown] “3) Can we PLEASE rename “project” to timeline or sequence? The term “project” makes absolutely no sense.”

    “Projects” (FCPX) = “Sequences” (FCP7)

[Oliver Peters] ” there is now a Relink function”

It’s hidden under the file menu, why couldn’t it be a right click function to do directly from timeline?

Also, is anyone else annoyed by not being able to change the track height and content (more audio, less video) with a keyboard function? I use Shift+T in FCP7 ALL the time to adjust and work more precisely with audio…then close it down quickly with shift+T. There has to be a way here…am I overlooking something?

    No need for cinema tools.

Bring 60p, put it on timeline, under retime menu, choose “conform”.

And a real media management. I have yet to actually backup only the PORTIONS of the clips used in an edit.

Yes. It would be good to have shortcuts for appearance and track height settings. Send your feedback to Apple on their official web page.

Already have sent feedback. I was hoping
    I was missing something.

One more question…is there a way to turn off level control (fcp7 equivalent of option w)
