Editing HD footage for the first time. Project is complete and ready to be rendered and burned to disc. What exactly do I do if I want to watch the final DVD in a standard DVD player? And what do I do if I want to make a blu ray version? I have Vegas 9.

[Julie Conroy] “What exactly do I do if I want to watch the final DVD in a standard DVD player?”

Use File | Render As… and select MainConcept MPEG2 with the DVD Architect NTSC Widescreen video stream template for video and then render the audio separately as Dolby Digital AC3.

Use File | Render As… and select Sony AVC with the Blu-ray 1920×1080-60i, 16 Mbps video stream template for video and then render the audio separately as Dolby Digital AC3.

Of course if you are in a PAL country use the PAL templates (50i not 60i) instead of NTSC. You could also use the MainConcept MPEG2 for HD if your original footage was HDV. You didn’t say which you were using.
