Go in Transform > Material Options > Light Transmission, if I am not mistaken, so you can set how much the light will pass through it.

light transmission is set to 0% … still the light is coming through and illuminates all layers behind it …

even if i set everything to 100% nothing happens … really confused now!

Try setting Cast Shadows to ON

Is the Layer that is letting all the light through by any chance a 2D Layer? I think lights only interact when you tick the 3D switch.

    Cheers,

    Steve

how about the layers that are receiving the light that is passing through the other layers, are they 3d also?

yes … everything is checked … all layers are 3d layers and accept shadows is turned on …

try it out by yourself guys … put 3 layers along the z axis (with space between them of course) and put a spotlight with small cone angle in front of the first one so that it just hits the middle of layer … the light illuminates all 3 layers …

if you activate the shadows the illumination becomes darker … but the light is still shining through …

yeah, i’ve done it, and it worked fine. the back layer and the front most layer were completely black, only the middle layer showed a spotlight. that’s why i was trying to help you troubleshoot your problem.
