I want to start a local cable tv show, the goal is 3 months from now. I will use final cut pro and would kindly appreciate advice on a few things. I am going to teach myself final cut pro for basic editing of the interviews/stories which I will shoot myself.

    I) I would like an intro animation/graphic thing like your basic cable tv show has. Can I pay someone to create this and then import it into final cut pro? Anybody do this kind of work?

II) I would also like the a nice bar thing at the bottom of the screen for interviews(like news networks have, with their logo/colors, name of person speaking and subject) Can I also have this ‘effect’ created and then import it myself and edit the text for each show?
Anybody do this kind of work?

I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

    Good luck.
Do you have any experience with NLEs? 3 months self- teaching is probably optimistic.
The one must-have reference is Lisa Brenneis FCP for Macintosh from Peachpit Press.

IMHO get a cheap dv camera and work with your own media towards your goal.
Quicker than tutorials, and you will get a better idea of your hardware requirements.

    Cheers

You can always pay someone to do the work for you. Final Cut Studio has all the tools and to get you started.

Both LiveType and Motion have pre-made templates the openings and lower thirds (if you know what they are). Just add your own footage.

A good education in Video Production can help also.

Yes, Steve is right. At least read a book about video production and producing before you start. Get the nomenclature right so your posts on forums like this will be easier for us to answer and a better experience for you.

I know I am a total illiterate talking to novelists, and I appreciate the kind guidance and understanding.

It seems to be consensus my goal is too optimistic and I agree.

I think educating myself (thanks for tips) and getting hands on experience and then hiring someone with experience, as recommended, is the path to shoot for. On Maui, where I live, I doubt I will be able to find someone who can put together a really nice intro and lower third (already learning correct terminology, oh ya!) but I may be able to find someone who knows FCP well.

    Thanks again,

    Aloha!

1 – You might be surprised, I’m sure there’s some folks in Hawaii in general who are doing this.

2 – You can work with anyone pretty much anywhere in the world these days with FTP sites and tools like SyncVUE. I work with out of state and out of the country clients often and we just communicate via phone / skype / iChat and I upload samples as we go along for approval. FedEx gets the finished product there the next day.

Also be sure to check out the Apple Pro Training Series and see if there is a FCPUG (Final Cut Pro Users Group) in your area. Hope all goes well for you.
