I’m ‘playing’ around with FCP X currently and am trying to get my head around the clips, compound clips, storyline and timeline and trying my best to relate these to terms I know from FCP 7. I’m looking for the group’s infinite wisdom and patience for this one, please?

    (Import data to EVENTS
    Create new PROJECT)

1.Using “I” and “O”‘s and use “Q,W,E” keys to place into the timeline; (I have found that the ‘Q’ key is efficient (as of now)
2.Group clips and create “COMPOUND CLIP”
3.Group compound clips and make them into “STORYLINE”
4.Group storylines and “OVERWRITE TO PRIMARY STORYLINE” – if necessary.

    Does this appear overkill, please?

Yeah you don’t really need compound clips until you do. Everything can live as discrete clips on a project timeline. May I highly recommend the Ripple Training videos to get you up to to speed?
