Bars reveal Text- 2 Questions
1. I created a random moving bars comp and I would like my text to reveal itself in the same fashion that my bars are moving. I tried rendering out the bars and setting them as a Alpha Matte to the text but obviously I dont know what Im doing because it didnt work. Is there a way I can do this in after effects?
2. Also I’m using the moving bars as a background with various transfer modes and it looks nice. But I would like to have some of the bars effect what is below them such as a scaling effect and I remember seeing a tutorial about moving panes but I cant find it. Any help?

Luma matte. Or key the luminance. Either way would do it. (For both questions, now that I think of it.)

i think the moving panes tutorial is on the Cow tutorials Site.
from my recollection you create a moving bar comp. then place that comp in a new comp. then put a background clip underneath the moving bar comp. and duplicated it so there are two background clips.
turn off the eyeball for the bars comp. make sure it is right above the duplicate background clip. choose the “alpha matte” option for the duplicate background comp which is next to the transfer mode option in the timeline and set it to the bars comp.
then apply DISTOR>TRANSFORM filter on the duplicate background clip and mess with the parameters to scale up the image.
then play the comp and it should work. wherever there is a bar in th bar comp the alpha matte will show the duplicated background clip taht has the distortion on it and look cool above the normal background clip.
